League of Gods: Among the Much-awaited Fantasy, Family Movies This July
The combined elements of Chinese mythology constitute the legendary story of the one of the anticipated fantasy family movies, League of Gods. The Hong Kong-Chinese fantasy film, which was directed by Koan Hui and Vernie Yeung, was adapted from the novel Fengshen Yanyi by Xu Zhonglin. Set in an ancient era, League of Gods’ action-packed spectacles that are incorporated with various elements of Chinese folklore and mythology such as immortals, deities, and spirits make it one of the upcoming movies that you should definitely watch out for. League of Gods will be showing in the cinema coming soon on 29 July.
Fantasy-action movies and family movies are delightful and entertaining, even more so if they come with a powerful ensemble cast that will bring the supernatural characters to life. The film combines China’s best talents: Jet Li, Fan Bingbing, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Wen Zhang, Louis Koo, Huang Xiaoming, Angelababy, and Jacky Heung.
Jet Li comes back after a two-year hiatus as Jiang Ziya, a military strategist who helped overthrow King Zhou, played by Tony Leung Ka-fai. Persuaded by his beautiful yet cunning concubine, Daji (Fan Bingbing), King Zhou becomes a tyrant and sets out to conquer the middle kingdom, bringing years of slaughter to the Adept tribes that ultimately led to the tribes’ elimination.
After the discovery of the Sword of Light, the weapon that can end King Zhou’s tyranny, Jiang Ziya and General Ji assign the quest for the Sword to seemingly normal individuals with Adept powers – Nezha, Lei Zhenzi, and Er Lang Shen.
