Lost at sea? Here are few pointers you need to know in order to survive!

Instead of relying to survival instincts, equip yourself with the proper knowledge that will help you once you find yourself lost in the waters.
Here are 4 survival tips that will help you survive amidst the vast ocean:
1. Find drinkable water
Perhaps, one of the greatest ironies of being stuck in the middle of the sea is being surrounded by water but not being able to drink it. Drinking salt water will only get you dehydrated or worst case scenario: ill.

Search for plastic bags or any containers that may catch and store rainwaters. Clothing such as raincoat hood and rubber boots makes good containers too. Be sure to rinse them first with the first raindrops to wash away the salt.
2. Make a shelter
Finding or building a shelter can be difficult when you are out in the open sea. But it is a super important aspect as it will protect you from the raging wind, the excruciating heat, and the extreme cold.
Use a large piece of clothing or a tarpaulin to cover you up during hot or cold days. You can use poles or long sticks to prop up the tarp and have it serve as a roof. Make sure to put something in between you and the wind as well.

3. Catch food
When you are stuck in the sea, the most favourable thing on the menu is fish. Good thing small fishes tend to gather beneath vessels. In order to catch aplenty, create a fishing line from any rope or string; your shoelaces would also make do. Use anything shiny like aluminium cans to attract the fish.

4. Signal for help
Always be on the lookout for planes and ships that can rescue you. If you spot one, use a pocket mirror or your phone screen to reflect sunlight. The signal can be seen up to 10 miles on a sunny day.
