Add ‘Demolition’ to Your Must-watch Movie List This May!
Considered as one of the few actors in the Hollywood film industry with an all-or-nothing approach to acting, Jake Gyllenhaal has never been the type to shy away from challenging and offbeat roles. And his portrayal of the apathetic Davis Mitchell in the comedy-drama film, ‘Demolition’, is no exception.
Demolition is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, a Canadian film director who has an impressive movie list of critically acclaimed independent and short films under his belt, and written by Bryan Sipe. The film tells the story of a successful investment banker (Gyllenhaal) who loses his wife in a tragic car accident. Overwhelmed by a strange grief over the sudden death of the wife he is not sure he loves, Davis tries to understand everything by destroying everything about his former life, despite pressure from his father-in-law to pull himself together. He writes a complaint letter to a vending machine company that turns into a series of confessional, soul-baring letters that catch the attention of the customer service representative, Karen. The two forms an unlikely bond, and Davis find himself rebuilding his life through the help of Karen and her son.
Gyllenhaal has a string of recent movies that showcase his “method” approach to acting. And ‘Demolition’ is among the latest movies he has done where he once again remarkably immerses himself in a role. His realistic portrayal of a successful Wall Street banker who becomes melancholic and irrational after the death of his wife has earned Jake Gyllenhaal a lot of praises from critics and moviegoers alike. So if you’re searching for a great new movie to catch in the cinema on the 26th of this month, ‘Demolition’ makes an outstanding addition to your must-watch movie list.
