On the evening of 20 April 2010, a well integrity failure and the loss of hydrostatic control of the well led to one of the worst and well-documented man-made disasters in the U.S. history, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion. The gas release and explosion, which looked like a nightmarish scene that came straight out from one of those man-made disaster-action movies, caused injuries and the lives of 11 individuals.

Inspired by the true events that occurred on the oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, Summit Entertainment and Lions Gate entertainment will be distributing the one of the thrilling and heart-wrenching biographical disaster-action movies this year, Deepwater Horizon. The film was written by Matthew Michael Carnahan and Matthew Sand and directed by Peter Berg.
