Psychiatric wards and mental institutions are already creepy as a standalone, what more if it is closed down 15 years ago?
Near the tiny city of Gwanju in Gyeonggi-do, just a 40-minute drive south of Seoul, lies Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital. Once a place for recovery, the abandoned facility is now on a relapse looking like it was taken straight out of a horror movie – with tarnished doors, tattered windows, and rotten furniture.

Aside from its crumbling shell, the eeriness of the place is made even stronger by the tell tales circulating the institution. Legends persists that for ten years, mentally ill patients and staffs of the hospital were suddenly dying for no explainable reason. And as time passes by, more and more stories started to build up like skeletons in Gonjiam’s closet – hideous experiments, mad doctors offing of staffs and patients, tortured souls lingering the hospital walls, and many other supernatural occurrences.
