Malaysia’s Take On Family Movies: The Kid From The Big Apple

This March, your local movie distribution company GSC Movies presents to you Malaysia’s very own take on family movies; a much-acclaimed production penned and directed by Malaysian author Jess Teong, The Kid From The Big Apple. Even before its release, the Malaysia movie has already attained acknowledgement from the international movie scene being official finalist in the 2014 Hollywood screenplay contest and the 2013 New York screenplay contest. On top of that, it clinched the Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Newcomer, and Best Writing award beating out big titles like Ip Man 3 and To The Fore.
Starring veteran Hong Kong actor Ti Lung, Malaysian child actress Sarah Tan, and Jessica Hester Hsuan, The Kid From The Big Apple tells the tale of a 12-year old girl (Sarah Tan) who grew up in New York City relocated to Malaysia to live with her conservative grandfather (Ti Lung). Two cultures and generations collide setting a whimsical conflict between grandfather and granddaughter. If you’re looking for interesting family movies to catch, The Kid From The Big Apple is one not to be missed and will open in Malaysian cinemas this March 10th.
